When buying pallets, not only size, type or load capacity matters, but also condition and quality classification. Several quality categories can exist within the same pallet type, and they may be ideal for different use cases. An export shipment, warehouse circulation or internal site handling does not necessarily require the same pallet quality.
Below we present the most common pallet quality categories to make it easier to choose the solution that best fits the task.
New pallet
A new pallet is a flawless pallet that has not been used before. It has not been in circulation, has not been soaked, and has been stored under protected conditions. In terms of condition, this is the highest quality category.
It is typically worth choosing a new pallet when flawless condition, uniform appearance, predictable quality or higher export-related expectations are especially important.
Near-new pallet
A near-new pallet is typically used once, but is flawless in terms of condition. It is structurally sound, clean, light white or yellowish in colour, and also in very good aesthetic condition.
This category can be a good choice for those looking for almost-new quality, but at a more favourable price than a completely new pallet.
Light pallet
A light pallet is similar to the near-new category, but rated slightly lower. Its colour may be darker white or yellowish, and minor wear, signs of use or small aesthetic defects may appear on it.
Importantly, these minor differences usually do not affect usability. A light pallet is often a good value-for-money solution where good condition matters, but a fully near-new appearance is not required.
Export grey pallet
An export grey pallet is typically a repaired pallet or one that has turned grey through natural use. It has a darker, more used appearance than near-new or light categories, but when in proper condition its load capacity can be the same as theirs.
At most, minor aesthetic defects occur in this category. It can be a good choice when the pallet’s technical condition and load capacity are more important than a light, aesthetic appearance.
Grey pallet
A grey pallet is very similar to the export grey category, but its appearance is less aesthetic. It can also be a repaired pallet or one that has turned grey during use, while still being structurally suitable for further use.
Grey pallets may show greater wear and stronger signs of use, but with proper sorting they can still be an economical and usable solution for internal logistics, warehousing or tasks where appearance is less sensitive.
Which pallet quality should you choose?
Choosing the right pallet quality always depends on the intended use. If appearance, consistent quality and export suitability are especially important, a new or near-new pallet may be the best choice. If cost efficiency and stable usability are the main criteria, light, export grey or grey pallets may also be suitable.
At Trade Rebellion, we sort pallets by condition, quality and intended use, so our partners always receive a pallet solution matched to the given logistics task.
